Message from the Principal – Issue 2

A Valentine Prayer
I said a Valentine prayer for you
and asked the Lord above
to fill your heart and bless your soul
With the precious gift of love.

I asked Him for sincere love
The kind that’s meant to stay
Just like the generous love
You give to those you touch each day.

I prayed for love from family
And from every cherished friend
Then I asked the Lord to give you
His love that knows no end.

Although not on the universal Church calendar, St Valentine is celebrated throughout the world as the patron of romance and married love. He was a Roman priest who was executed for marrying couples against the orders of the Emperor Claudius II. While in prison he healed the sight of his jailer’s young daughter, and on the eve of his execution, reportedly penned her a note signing it, from your Valentine.

A woman ordered a plate of oysters in a seafood restaurant. She told the waiter, “I’d like them not too large, not too small, not too salty, not too fat and they must be icy cold.” After a brief pause, she added. “And I want them quickly.”
“Yes ma’am,” replied the waiter, “and would you like them with or without pearls?”
It’s so easy to focus on our own needs and wants and ignore those of others – especially in a society where materialism and instant gratification seem to be the norm rather than the exception. “What’s in it for me?” “If it feels good, do it.” “I don’t want to get involved.” These common phrases of our time reveal the same sickness of the soul – self-centeredness.
But Jesus lived and taught another way. He said, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” (Mark 9:35)
Let’s look through the eyes of Christ today. Who needs your love and care?

Our deepest condolences and heart-felt sympathy to Nicole McDonough whose father passed away and was grandfather to Leah (Year 6). Please keep Nicole and her family in your thoughts and prayers at this very sad and difficult time.

Thank you to Teresa  Mortlock (Hayley’s mum Year 1) for working incredibly hard to make the Pre Primary White outdoor area come alive for the children. Teresa worked incredibly hard along with Miss Katherine McIntyre and Mrs Jayne Billi during the school holidays. Changes to Pre Primary Blue will hopefully be made during the April holidays. More information about this will be mentioned soon.

Thank you to all parents who attended the Parent Information evening on Monday night. I mentioned the Strategic Plan 2019-2021 and I would like to invite any parents wishing to read through the strategies and provide input to come along on Tuesday, 26 February at 6.30pm in the hall. Thank you to all staff for being so well prepared and organised, providing valuable information about the 2019 academic year. I do hope parents found the meetings informative.

We are really looking forward to Evening on the Green Friday, 22 February from 5-8pm. The P&F has worked very hard to make this wonderful community gathering an enjoyable event for everyone involved in our school. I look forward to seeing everyone there! I am really looking forward to hearing Murphy’s Lore!

Congratulations to all our Student Leaders who received badges last Friday at assembly. I know you will all do great things for our school, helping make it an awesome place to learn, grow and improve. Thank you to Mrs Main and Mr Spencer for organising the presentations.

Nature Playgrounds are still being worked on with the Bush Grove starting in the coming week. All playground work will be completed by Monday, 25 February. I do thank you for your patience; it will be worth the wait when everything is completed.
