Message from the Principal – Issue 17

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

Dear God,
I know that You give me many gifts.
The gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ in Holy Communion is the greatest of all. How can I ever thank You enough for this special gift?          At Mass we are called to be like Jesus, by loving and serving one another in the world. As I become more like Him, please continue to
help me.  Show me the places and ways that I can bring Your love, kindness, and peace
to others….
in my family,
in my neighbourhood,
in my community,
with my friends.                                                                                                                                                                                            I ask this in Jesus’ name.

First Holy Communion
The Body and Blood of Christ –Corpus Christi 17/6/18 The Feast of Corpus Christi, or the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (as it is often called today), goes back to the 13th century, but it celebrates something far older: the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. This Saturday evening and Sunday morning, we as a faith community come together to support the Year Four children as they receive the Eucharist for the first time. The children have been working very hard learning about the sacrament and how we, as Catholics, draw strength and grace each time we receive the body and blood of Jesus at Mass. We pray for the families of the First Communicants too, the first teachers of their faith formation.

Thank You Mrs Menchetti
Thank you to parents and staff for your assistance and cooperation with school photos this week. Mrs Menchetti, in particular, has done a super job scheduling the photos around other school events, ensuring class interruptions are kept to a minimum.

St Luke’s Cross Country Carnival
Congratulations to all the children who participated in last Friday’s St Luke’s School Cross Country. I was really proud of all the children for participating, as running isn’t everyone’s favourite sport. The positive attitudes of having a go and earning points for their House were highlights for me. I wish to congratulate the runners who won a medal on the day; thank you for sharing your gifts and talents with us. You made it look easy as I was exhausted watching! A special thank you to Mr Noseda for organising the carnival and thank you to staff who helped setup and pack away. It was another fabulous example of the great team we have here at St Luke’s, I just love it!

Winter Lightning Carnival
Tomorrow our Years 4-6 students are heading off to compete in this year’s Winter Lightning Carnival. Our students will be playing AFL, netball and soccer. I would like to wish, all of our amazing students and staff attending, a fabulous day.

Semester One Reports
I wish to remind parents and children that student Semester One reports will be accessible through Seqta portal next Thursday, 21 June . Please ensure that you have a valid username and password or made the necessary arrangements to get one. If you have any trouble accessing your child’s report, please email Mr Baker for assistance.

In next week’s newsletter, information will go home explaining interview times and how to book your interview with your child’s class teacher for Tuesday 26th June.

Father/Daughter Camp
The Father/Daughter camp was really well attended last weekend with many dads and daughters descending on Nanga. I hope everyone enjoyed the days away. My sincere thanks to Paul Murphy (dad of Vittoria, 1W) for once again organising this opportunity for our St Luke’s community. I also received wonderful feedback about how the older children helped look after the younger children on camp, this was very special. Well done to everyone involved.

Congratulations Joshua and Ethan
We are happy to announce that on the 5, July 2018, Joshua Nguyen and Ethan Mackie were offered a placement at the sought after Perth Modern School. Perth Modern School is a fully selective academic school with students gaining entrance via the Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET). Joshua and Ethan have expressed their gratitude towards St. Luke’s in particularly, their teachers for always inspiring and encouraging them to perform their best. Once again we would like to congratulate Joshua and Ethan on their achievement.

Lifelink PJ Day
It was wonderful to see everyone in the PJs last Thursday supporting our Student Council’s efforts to raise money for Lifelink. A great day was had by everyone involved. A special thank you to the Student Council for leading this wonderful initiative, a job very well done!
